Assam TET 2026: Teacher Eligibility Test Guide (LP & UP)
Government of Assam · Paper I (Classes I–V) & Paper II (Classes VI–VIII)
The Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) decides who is eligible to be appointed as a teacher in Assam's elementary schools. It is not a recruitment exam by itself: passing TET makes you eligible to apply when teacher posts are advertised. There are two papers: Paper I for Lower Primary (LP, Classes I–V) and Paper II for Upper Primary (UP, Classes VI–VIII). You can take one or both if you meet the eligibility for each.
TET notifications (including special TETs for particular mediums) set their own eligibility, dates and conditions. Use this guide to understand the test and confirm details in the official notification.

🎯 Pass Marks
- General: 60% — 90 out of 150
- SC / ST / OBC / MOBC / PwD: 55% — 83 out of 150 (5% relaxation)
- Some recent notifications also require a minimum score in Language I (for example 18/30 for General), so a strong overall score alone may not be enough.
📅 Preparation Plan
- Child Development & Pedagogy first. It appears in both papers and rewards understanding of learning theories (Piaget, Vygotsky, Kohlberg), inclusive education and assessment.
- Language I and II: practise unseen passages, grammar and language-teaching pedagogy.
- Subject content at school level: revise Class I–VIII textbooks (Paper I) or up to Class VIII with depth in your chosen subject (Paper II), together with how to teach each topic.
- Previous TET papers: the pedagogy questions repeat in style; solving past papers is the fastest improvement.
- Mock tests: 150 questions in 150 minutes is tight; practise full papers to fix your pace.
