Assam Police Recruitment 2026: Constable & Sub-Inspector (SLPRB) Guide

State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB), Assam · Constable (UB/AB) & Sub-Inspector

Assam Police recruitment is run by the State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB). Two entry points attract the most candidates: Constable, open to 10th and 12th pass candidates, and Sub-Inspector (SI), open to graduates. Both combine a physical stage with a written test, so preparation has to cover fitness and study together. This guide explains who can apply for which post, how selection works and how to prepare for each stage.

Vacancies, age limits, physical standards and the order of tests are re-notified each cycle and differ between posts and categories. Use this guide to understand the process and always confirm exact figures in the official SLPRB notification.

🏃 Physical Standards & Efficiency Tests

The physical stage is qualifying: you must clear it to move on, and many candidates are eliminated here. It has two parts.

  • PST (Physical Standards Test): height for all candidates, and chest (normal and expanded) for men. Minimum heights are lower for ST and some other categories and for women. In recent notifications the minimum for general-category men was around 162 cm for Constable and higher for SI.
  • PET (Physical Efficiency Test): a timed run and a long jump, with separate standards for men and women. For example, an earlier Constable notification asked men to cover 3.2 km in 14 minutes.

Medical standards are also strict: good eyesight and colour vision, and no conditions such as knock knees, flat feet or squint. Read the medical section of the notification before you apply, not after.

📝 The Written Test

The written test is an objective (MCQ) paper. Exact sections and marks change between cycles, but candidates should expect:

  • General Knowledge & current affairs — with a strong focus on Assam: history, geography, culture, rivers, national parks, festivals and state schemes
  • Reasoning — series, analogies, coding-decoding, directions
  • Elementary Mathematics — percentages, ratio, profit and loss, time and work, simple interest
  • English — grammar, vocabulary and comprehension

For SI, the level is that of a graduate exam, and the later viva/psychometric stage looks at aptitude for police work.

📅 Preparation Plan

  1. Start running now. Fitness takes weeks to build; begin with easy runs 4–5 days a week and add timed practice of the exact distance.
  2. Measure yourself honestly against the height/chest standards for your category before paying the fee.
  3. Assam GK daily: 30 minutes on Assam history, geography and current affairs — this is where most scoring happens.
  4. Maths and reasoning: one topic a day, then mixed practice sets.
  5. Previous papers: solve SLPRB papers from earlier cycles to learn the level and timing.
  6. Documents: keep HSLC/HS/degree certificates, caste certificate, PRC and recent photographs ready. Use our photo & signature resizer for the upload sizes.
