Overview
The Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes, Assam, has announced the Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarship scheme for the 2026-2027 academic session. This centrally sponsored initiative provides financial support to eligible Scheduled Caste (SC) students across Assam to pursue their education. Interested candidates can apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) to avail of these benefits. The scheme aims to promote educational equity by assisting students from Class I through post-matriculation levels.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community and hold a valid caste certificate issued by the District Commissioner.
- The scholarship is open exclusively to Indian nationals who are permanent residents (domiciled) of Assam.
- For Pre-Matric (Class IX & X) and all Post-Matric courses, the annual parental/guardian income must not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakhs.
- There is no income ceiling for students whose parents or guardians are engaged in unclean occupations.
- A Bonafide Certificate issued by the Head of the Institution is mandatory for all applicants.
- Students engaged in unclean occupations must provide a certificate from the District Social Welfare office or an authorized local body.
Documents Required
- Aadhaar Card (mandatory for all applicants; parents/guardians must provide if the applicant is a minor)
- Active Bank Passbook (linked with Aadhaar for DBT payments)
- Bonafide Certificate from the educational institution
- Caste Certificate issued by the District Commissioner
- Income Certificate issued by the Circle Officer of the respective Revenue Circle
